Château Ausone

Château Ausone

Named for the Roman poet Ausonius, who owned vineyards in the area, Château Ausone is located in the commune of Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s Right Bank and is one of only four estates classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A (the highest in Saint-Émilion). Producing wine for over four centuries, this estate is one of the few remaining family-owned properties in Bordeaux. The vineyards are planted to 55% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot. Château Ausone’s vineyards sit in a natural amphitheater, enjoy south-west exposure, and lie on an enormous deposit of limestone which imparts a singular elegance and striking minerality which separates it from other estates in Bordeaux. This along with low yields and meticulous winemaking make Château Ausone one of the most powerful, long lived wines in the world.
