Château Lafite-Rothschild

Château Lafite-Rothschild

Located in the commune of Pauillac, Château Lafite-Rothschild is one of the five First Growths included in the 1855 Classification and boasts a long and storied history. Its roots trace back to 1234 when a local abbot Gombaud de Lafite first established the estate and planted vines here. Since then, it has been enjoyed by royalty and Presidents (was one of Thomas Jefferson’s favorites), with the Maréchal de Richelieu proclaiming, “I have found Château Lafite’s wine to be a delicious, generous cordial, comparable to the ambrosia of the Gods of Olympus.” Château Lafite-Rothschild produces two wines: the grand vin Château Lafite-Rothschild (with a dominant use of Cabernet Sauvignon) and a second wine Carruades de Lafite (with a higher percentage of Merlot).
