Sassicaia

Sassicaia

Here it is…the one that started it all: Sassicaia. Produced by Tenuta San Guido, “the place of many stones” (or Sassicaia in its native Tuscan dialect) carries the auspicious honor of being the very first Super Tuscan released onto the world stage, and a star with international critics, since its inaugural vintage in 1968. Originally planted in 1944 using cuttings from the illustrious Bordeaux First Growth Château Lafite-Rothschild, in the hills of Bolgheri Tuscany, Sassicaia’s influence and gravitas has grown so strong that the Italian government granted the wine its very own DOC status of Sassicaia Bolgheri DOC in 1994, an extremely rare occurrence. Run by the Incisa della Rocchetta family since the 40’s, Sassicaia has never bent to international pressures to produce monster, overly extracted wines, but rather have remained true to their intention of producing the finest Italian wine of elegance and finesse seen through the lens of Bordeaux. The wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. This is THE most collectible wine in all of Italy.
