Il Poggione
Five generations of family have presided over one of the largest, most privileged estates in Montalcino: Il Poggione. Established in 1958 (with roots traced back to the 1800’s), Il Poggione is located in the prime site of Sant’Angelo in Colle, known for providing fruit of optimal ripeness while maintaining balancing freshness and acidity. This is a benchmark property which is known for a more “modern” expression of Sangiovese Grosso, aging their wines in French oak barrels of varying sizes. This translates to wines of plush, round textures and ample fruit while also being quite age worthy. Both the normale Brunello (made from vines at least 20 yrs old) and their superb, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli (made exclusively from 40-year-old vines in the I Paganelli vineyard) are some of the finest examples of the popular international style of Brunello di Montalcino.
