After success at Concha y Toro in his native Chile, Agustin Huneeus and his wife purchased 280 acres of prime land in Rutherford, Napa in 1990. Needing to be planted, they enlisted the advice of none other than Petrus wine maker (and Dominus consultant) Jean Claude Berrouet to consult in vineyard management. Today, 160 acres are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Carménère, in 26 different vineyard blocks. All the vines are farmed organically and biodynamically. A consistent darling with the critics, Quintessa is on the short list of the best wines of Napa Valley.
