Ornellaia

Originally founded by Tuscan legend Marchese Lodovico Antinori in 1981, Ornellaia (named after the flowering ash trees surrounding the winery) is one of the most preeminent, authoritative players in the Super Tuscan wine scene of Italy. Located in the vaunted region of Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast, the estate controls 224 acres of prime vineyards, located mostly on advantageous hillsides, providing optimal exposure to the sun, cooling maritime breezes, and diverse soil types that are perfect for producing the Bordeaux varietals that are a key component in their Super Tuscan blends. In 2005, the estate was acquired by the Frescobaldi Group and its wine making duties helmed by Axel Heinz. Its namesake flagship wine Ornellaia, is consistently one of the most highly rated Super Tuscan wines. The group also produces the cult classic Masseto, one of the most coveted and highly allocated wines in the world. Ornellaia is certainly a force to be reckoned with as are its truly sensational wines.
